This is useful oak bureau which dates to the 1920s or 1930s.
It has a handsome and evocative look and is perfect for use in an office or home study, a nice alternative to a traditional desk.
The bureau is solid, heavy and well made from oak and oak plywood.
The front is fitted with four lockable drawers which are finished with aged brass cup handles and brass escutcheons Set above the drawers is a lockable fall front which, when opened, sits on two wooden lopers. The fall front opens to reveal a fitted interior with pigeon holes which have been hand painted in a vibrant blue colour and then darkly waxed.
The wood has a waxed finish which is smooth and fairly matt.
CONDITION
This piece is in solid structural condition with various cosmetic marks commensurate with age and use. The top section has an old ink stain and the back of the desk is rather rustic looking.
The two lower drawer bases have shrunk slightly but are still perfectly usable.
