This is a very unusual piece, it began life as a coffer, but at some point many years ago it was turned into a low sideboard cupboard, making it a more practical piece for everyday use. It is fairly low and has two large doors, the right door handle turns to lock the dook closed by means of an internal toggle, the left hand door is fitted with an internal latch. Both side panels are carved with diamond shaped lozenges each surrounding a flower and the sideboard is finished on short block feet. This piece has a unique distressed paint finish, firstly an undercoat of dark teal blue paint has been applied, followed by a top coat of cream chalk paint which has then been coated in a light brown stain to create an aged look before finally being sealed with furniture wax. The door panels have been decorated with a stencilled pattern to add texture and character.
internally the top shelf measures 26cm high, the lower shelf 31.5cms high shelf width 91cm, shelf depth 44cm The measurements are taken at the widest points.
Condition
In solid rustic condition with many marks of age and use, old shrinkage cracks, etc. The base has old inactive wood worm holes which we have treated as a precaution.
