This is a handsome antique bureau bookcase which dates to the early 20th century.
It is an elegant and substantial piece which could serve a variety of purposes, offering useful storage and display space with the benefit of having a desk space to sit and work.
The bureau bookcase is well made from solid oak and oak plywood and is solid and heavy, with the benefit of splitting into three parts for easy transportation.
The bureau section has four lockable drawers which are finished with decorative metal handles. The drawers are set below a sloping top which opens to reveal pigeon holes and small drawers suitable for storing correspondence and stationery.
The top cabinet section is glazed and is also lockable, the interior houses three adjustable shelves which sit on small wooden supports.
The bureau has been hand sanded back to the natural wood and waxed.
The back of the cabinet has been hand painted in white paint which contrast nicely against the dark brown exterior.
