Oak Cutlery Chest Collectors or Stationery Cabinet
Oak Cutlery Chest Collectors or Stationery Cabinet
This a handsome table top cabinet dating to the early 20th century.
Made of solid oak the cabinet is heavy and well made, and was originally designed for use as a cutlery chest.
It could be used as a collectors chest for stowing away small treasures or perhaps on a desk top for correspondence and stationery.
The cabinet has double doors to the front which open to reveal three drawers finished with recessed brass handles. The drawer interiors have been stripped of the old worn cutlery fittings and waxed.
To either end is a recessed brass carrying handle and the top bears an unmarked brass cartouche.
The key shown is purely decorative, unfortunately I haven't been able to find a key that works in the lock.
It measures
28cms high x 54.5cms wide x 42cms deep
drawer heights, top 4cms, middle 4.5cms, bottom 7cms
drawer width 44.5cms, depth 32cms
The measurements are taken at the widest points.
Various small marks of age and use.
