Japanese Red Lacquered Shodana Cabinet with Cherry Blossoms c1880
A beautiful antique Japanese Shodana cabinet dating to the end of the 19th century.
The cabinet has a red lacquered finish and is decorated with cherry blossoms.
Several different highly skilled lacquer techniques have been used including Maki-e used to finish the drawer interiors.
The top has a high gloss finish and the cabinet has decorative metal edging and ornate handles.
This piece is stunning and unusual and is decorated on all sides allowing it to be used to divide a room.
CONDITION
The cabinet is generally in good structural condition with many small cosmetic marks of age and use and various small repairs and touch ups here and there.
One of the slide door finger pulls is a later replacement and an interior catch has been added to one of the cupboard doors to keep it closed.
There are some marks to the gloss finish on the top.
The cabinet has some movement if you push it side to side, mainly due to its tiered construction.
