A handsome antique Indian cupboard dating to the early 19th century.
Made in Madras the cupboard is well made from Indian hardwood and is solid and very heavy.
The front has two lockable doors which open to reveal fixed shelves and three storage drawers near the top. At the base of the cupboard is a lift top compartment which is fitted internally with two sliding drawers.
The lock on the lift top compartment is stamped 'Madras' and has a crown mark, the key is missing for this lock.
The cupboard is set on simple block feet and the top is finished with graduated cornicing.
The wood has a waxed finish which has a nice sheen.
CONDITION
The cupboard is in solid structural condition but there have been various repairs made over the years to the edging, etc. The feet are quite rustic, the right one has suffered some damage and there is a split in the wood above it, although this does not affect its structural integrity.
Please take a look at all of the photos to get an idea of its general condition.
