A handsome antique 19th Century mahogany kneehole desk of modest proportions and significant character.
I love this piece, it looks as though it belongs in a sea captains cottage, with white walls and a sea view near a small old harbour.
Featuring a rectangular top inset with black leather the desk has twin pedestals, each housing four drawers set under two upper frieze drawers, all finished with black ceramic escutcheons and attractive brass drop handles. The right hand drawers are quite shallow, owing to a discreet file cupboard which is located on the right hand side panel of the desk.
The desk is one solid piece and is ideal for a home office, study or cottage interior, perfect for a room with limited space.
The wood has a traditional French polished finish which has aged nicely over time.
CONDITION
The desk is in solid structural condition with various historical marks including old ink stains to the drawer interiors.
One of the black ceramic escutcheons is damaged and the handles are later antique replacements.
Please take a look at all of the photos to get an idea of its condition.
