A two part antique vernacular Welsh linen press dating to the early 19th Century.

It is a handsome piece which will provide useful storage in any home, a good alternative to a traditional wardrobe or housekeepers cupboard.

The linen press is made of solid oak which has a rich and dark patina with many tonal variations. It is heavy and well made. and has the benefit of splitting into two parts which makes it easier to transport.

The top storage cabinet is fronted by two panelled cupboard doors which open to reveal two later oak shelves, a useful addition for use in modern times.

The lower section features a three over two drawer configuration with a single wide drawer below, the top drawers are dummy drawer fronts and do not have drawers behind them. All of the drawers are finished with traditional brass swan neck handles.

The press rests on bracket feet and the wood has a traditional wax polished finish.

CONDITION

The linen press is in solid structural condition with many cosmetic marks of age and use.
There are many historical reworkings and repairs, the back boards have been replaced, drawer bases repaired and replaced as necessary, the shelves are a later addition and two wooden toggles have been made to keep the left hand door closed. There are old historical wood worm holes to the drawer bases.
