This is a handsome antique linen press which dates to the early 1800s.
The linen press is made of mahogany and oak and is very heavy and well made, it is an unusual size, like a very large chest of drawers.
It spent much of its life in Merrion Castle near Dublin, there is a pencil inscription on the inside of the right hand door, written by a relative of the Lowe family who lived at the castle in the early 19th Century.
The front is fitted with two lockable panelled doors set over two spacious drawers.
The doors open to reveal two pull out slides, suitable for storing bedding and linens or perhaps clothing.
This piece has been fully restored in our rural Devon workshop with repairs made as necessary before being newly French Polished.
It is an elegant and substantial piece which could serve a variety of purposes, offering useful storage space for any room.
CONDITION
The linen press is in solid structural condition with various cosmetic marks of age and use.
