Large Antique Stripped Pine Victorian Shipwrights chest with Fitted Interior
This is a large and handsome antique shipwrights chest dating to the mid 19th century.
Made of solid pine it is fairly substantial and heavy, a well made piece which has seen a very active life, both at sea and on shore.
The chest has a deep lid which opens to reveal a fitted interior with drawers to the left set over a partitioned tool tray. The chest is set on a deep base plinth and the corners have metal banding. To either end is a large cast iron handle.
The wood has been stripped back and is very natural and aged looking.
A splendid piece for use in the home or workshop.
CONDITION
The chest is in solid structural condition with many cosmetic marks of age and use.
The wood is very scarred looking and the hinges have been reattached at some point in time. There is a repair to the back right corner of the lid and a stain to the lid.
